BULLETIN: The 2011 event will take place on Saturday August 13th 2011. The details remain at the planning stages at the present time. Please check back as they will be posted once they are finalized.
Each year the Friends of Killbear Park host a Family Barbeque for campers and day visitors to the Park on a Saturday at the approximate midpoint of the popular camping season. The Barbeque takes place at the day use beach or the Visitor's Centre from mid-morning until late afternoon.
There is something to do for everyone during the day. The children are welcome to enjoy a number of different carnival type games which may include: face painting, bubble fun, table bowling, ring toss, golf putting, petty toss etc. Children may exchange their winning tickets for a variety of items at the central information tent.
Everyone is welcome to register for our sand sculpture contest held on the beach. Each group of participants is give a large designated square area in which to create their piece of sculpture. At the end of the afternoon a group of judges reviews the works of art and determines a winner and two runners up. These people are given a prize certificate from a local store merchant.
Live entertainment takes place throughout the day. People are invited to learn about the local snake population - including the Eastern Massasauga Rattkesnake from the Natural History Education Staff who are there to answer any type of questions you may have about the snakes or the Park in general.
The Friends of Killbear Park provide food items in the way of Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Sausage, Ice Cream and a variety of soft drinks or water. There is a fee charged for these food items.
Throughout the day there is a silent auction for a variety of items donated by local vendors and individuals. Tickets for the auction may be purchased for a small fee. Winners are given the items they were successful in bidding on at the end of the day.
The Family B.B.Q. is a great way to spend a day in the Park. Come for as long as you would like and enjoy all of the fun activities.
Money raised during the B.B.Q. is used directly by the Friends of Killbear Park to support special projects within the Park.
