Dear 'Friends of Killbear'
Thank you to everyone who passed through the Nature Shoppe and the Visitor Centre this
summer, you kept us hopping, and gave us some new merchandizing ideas for 2011!! The Friends sponsored many events this summer, we hope that many of you were able to attend. Especially Killbear Park's 50th Anniversary Celebration held at the Visitor Centre. The day was filled with activities, many former park employees attending to share what Killbear was like many years ago. We would be remiss if we did not mention Eddie and Gordie's participation, They brought along their many pieces of memories as well as doning an older version of the Park uniform. Eddie and Gordie share more that 50years of experience as an employee at Killbear. Other events throughout the summer included Wendell Ferguson & Katherine Wheatley, The Walkami Wailers and David Archibald all returned with their great evening performances... and don't forget our annual Canada Day Pancake breakfast.
The Friends of Killbear is a non profit Charity organization, managed by a volunteer Board of Directors who work alongside senior Park staff supporting and funding many initiatives for the protection and preservation of the Park through education and research funded by memberships, donations, fundraising, grants and the receipt of net profits from retail sales in the Nature Shoppe. The Friends applies for many grants during the off season. Our most recentgrant was received from TD Canada Trust, in support of the collection & recycling of the liquor and beer bottles throughout the Park. This winter, the recycling centre will receive a face lift by increasing the burilding size to accomodate the increased number of bottles being donated, and to keep the workspace safe for the staff. Your bottle donations raises a significant amount of funds each year, we appreciate your generosity. Thank you!

Fall Colours
We can feel the coolness in the air here at Killbear Park, a sure sign that fall is here and that white puffy snow is just around the corner. Many of you have had the opportunity to come to the park in the fall and experience the fall colours, smell of the pines as they cool down from the summer heat and to feel the coolness of the air coming off of the bay while sitting on the very quiet beaches .. The wildlife are not as rare in the fall, they remain guarded and very visible every day. Birds are beginning to migrate, the beavers are working overtime to make sure that their lodge is suitable for the cold months ahead.
We hope you enjoy some of the fall photos on the newsletter

'Killbear, Memories of Georgian Bay'
Are you thinking about Christmas yet? Are you wondering what to buy for that person who has everything? What about Julie Harmgardt's second benefit book filled with new stories,"Killbear, Memories of Georgian Bay." This hardcover book is a nice book for everyone's coffee table. Stories are short and fun to read and re read, many of us can relate to most of the stories from our own camping experiences. Julie has included a couple of short paragraphs below for this newsletter, you can honestly tell that Killbear is her passion..
From the desk of Julie Harmgardt: In 2007 the overwhelmingly positive reaction to my first benefit book, Killbear, Thanks for the Memories, surpassed even my original expectations. Killbear campers couldn't get enough of stories involving their favourite place in the world: Killbear Park. The book sold out in less than four months, netting the Friends of Killbear $9,000 to pursue a myriad of park initiatives.Based on this response, I decided that capturing Killbear's social history was a unique way to unite campers, highlighting their genuine love of the park. Thus my second book, Killbear, Memories of Georgian Bay, has continued to represent Killbear with stories dating back as far as 1960 to present day. The project is a different way to raise funds: you receive a nostalgic keepsake while supporting the Friends. This 300-page hardcover book is filled with stories of adventure, practical jokes, romance and friendship. Shoppe or online at.http://www.scriptreaction.com/killbear/ or call the Nature Shoppe before November 30th leave you name and phone number. We'll call you for payment and shipping details. Fundraising
As a non profit organization our annual fundraising, donations, grants and memberships are our main source of income. Thank you to all for your ongoing support. A special thanks to the little girls who pick berries, sold them to other campers and donate half of their hard earned money to the Friends of Killbear. Thank you to those who are professionals at selling our raffle tickets, not always an easy task.
P.S. We are endeavouring to keep our website current, we'll share some of our planned events for 2011 over the next several months.
